Local Blues/Rock Quartet’s CD Release Event to Benefit Animal Shelter in Madisonville

CINCINNATI, OH – October 16, 2014:  Cincinnati blues-rock band The Whiskey Shambles is hosting a CD release event for their new album “Loose Change for a Broken Man” at 9pm on Saturday, November 15 at The Drinkery in Over-the-Rhine. Local electronic rock band JetLab will be opening the show, and other guest appearances will be announced soon. “This will be more than just a CD release show,” said Shambles bassist Brother James. “We’re throwing a party, and inviting some special friends to perform with us. But it’s also a fundraiser to help a local no-kill animal shelter, so there is a lot to be excited about.”

The Whiskey Shambles have been performing around Cincinnati and on the road for about two years, but already have a few accolades under their belts, including a Cincinnati Entertainment Award nomination for Best Blues Band, as well as being selected as the winners of the Northeast Ohio Blues Association’s Blues Challenge, which qualifies the band to represent the organization at the International Blues Challenge in Memphis in 2015.

With two EPs already released (2012 and 2014), “Loose Change for a Broken Man” is The Whiskey Shambles’ first full-length album. The CD includes mostly original songs, written by lead singer and guitarist Nathan Singer, as well as a few re-imagined renditions of traditional songs (Keep your Lamps) Trimmed and Burning and Knoxville Girl, as well as Memphis Slim’s classic Mother Earth.

The CD release show is free and open to the public, but a $5 donation at the door is suggested to benefit Cincinnati’s Save The Animals Foundation (STAF). “My wife Anneliese and I have been volunteering at STAF for years,” said Whiskey Shambles drummer Aaron Tyree. “And everyone in the band has pets that have been rescued, so this is a cause that’s near and dear to all of us.” The band is also raffling off a customized (“Shambled”) bass guitar, with proceeds benefiting the organization.

The Whiskey Shambles are an original garage rock/basement blues band from Cincinnati, OH, formed in 2012 by Nathan Singer, of Starshaker and Absinthium fame, and Brother James, founder of the Cincinnati Entertainment Award-winning blues band Voodoo Puppet.  Their sound has been compared to Screaming Jay Hawkins, The Black Keys, Ten Foot Polecats, The Heavy, Gary Clark Jr., Black Diamond Heavies, and The White Stripes.  They have been described as, “R.L. Burnside and Black Sabbath jamming with Nina Simone in a burned-out rum shack, using opium for incense.”

The Shambles are currently working their way through the dive bars and juke joints of the Midwest and Rustbelt, with occasional trips to more exotic locales, like Nashville or Buffalo, New Orleans or Asheville, Atlanta or NYC. They won the 2014 Northeast Ohio Blues Challenge, and have been chosen to represent Northeast Ohio Blues Association at the 2015 International Blues Challenge in Memphis, TN. The Shambles have been nominated for a 2014 Cincinnati Entertainment Award in the Blues category and several of their songs have earned critical acclaim. In 2012 they released the EP, “ONE LAST BLAST: Live at the Mad Frog,” and in September of 2014 they released a second EP, “Stumbling Toward Beale Street.”  Their first full-length album, “Loose Change for a Broken Man,” will be released in November of 2014.

Funded entirely by donations and operated solely by volunteers, this no-kill shelter currently homes over 600 dogs and cats, many of whom have been abused, abandoned or literally tossed away. Teams of volunteers work with the animals two shifts a day, 365 days a year, providing them with a safe and caring environment until we can place them in permanent, loving homes. Over the years they have matched thousands of lucky animals with equally lucky families.  More information:  http://staf.org
