Nominated for 2015 Cincinnati Entertainment Award

The Whiskey Shambles - 2015 Cincinnati Entertainment Award Nominee

Brother James - 2011 Cincinnati Entertainment Award WinnerWe’re excited to announce that Whiskey Shambles have been nominated for another Cincinnati Entertainment Award this year. If you don’t mind, please drop a vote our way… we’ll scratch your back later — we promise.

After getting waaay too crazy at last year’s awards show, being asked to put our clothes back on multiple times, cut off by every bartender in the joint, and a few other things we actually aren’t legally allowed to talk about, the fools have rolled out the red carpet for another night of Shambles debauchery.

The Whiskey Shambles at the 2014 CEAsThanks to the nominating committee, to our fans, and to everyone who wants to see us dancing on the tables again this year. We’re proud be in the same company as all the other nominees, and apologize in advance for whatever might come of this. We’ll bring bail money.

And thanks to CityBeat for putting on this shindig and doing so much to support local music. We’re lucky to live in a city with a music scene so great, and you’re a big reason why. Kudos!

Rivertown Brewing and The Whiskey Shambles
Release Limited Edition Beer

Shambling Southward celebrates the band’s pilgrimage to Memphis
and their unique blend of “Dubbel Barrel Blues”

CINCINNATI, OH – November 18, 2014:  In honor of The Whiskey Shambles‘ win at the Northeast Ohio Blues Association (NEOBA) Challenge, which qualifies them to compete at the International Blues Challenge in Memphis in January 2015, the band has worked with Cincinnati’s Rivertown Brewing Company to create “Shambling Southward – Dubbel Barrel Blues,” a Belgian Dubbel aged with brandy-infused wood chips.

“We started talking with Rivertown this summer about brewing a special beer to celebrate our trip to Memphis, working with them to develop an interesting brew that our fans — and craft beer fans — will love,” said Shambles bassist Brother James. “After much discussion, we all agreed that this recipe captures the band’s unique sound and spirit in liquid form.”

Rivertown Brewing Company, which has recently begun a transition to focusing on wilder varieties of beer (with an emphasis on Belgian and sour styles), has been experimenting with small batch recipes — exploring ideas from the brewery’s staff, not just the brewers.  “Their DIY attitude and spirit of exploration really spoke to us,” explains Shambles frontman Nathan Singer.  “Rivertown was the perfect brewery for The Shambles to partner with.”

The beer will be tapped at a special event on January 16, 2015, at the Rivertown Brewery Taproom, with a performance by The Whiskey Shambles starting at 7:00pm.

Rivertown Beer Evangelist (and co-developer of the recipe) Roxanne Westendorf, explained this unique beer: “The Belgian Trappist Monks know how to brew very special beers. We took their genius of the Belgian Dubbel and added brandy-soaked wood chips to the secondary fermentation stage, to blend with this style and make a beer that is as spicy as The Whiskey Shambles.”

“We’ve always described The Shambles sound as a loud, belligerent style of demonic hill-stomp blues that almost . . . but not quite . . . betrays an air of subtle sophistication lingering just around the edges,” Brother James clarifies. “This brew combines an exciting wallop from the brandy with the gentler refinement of the Belgian style, making it a perfect pairing with the band: a blast of what we’re calling, ‘Dubbel Barrel Blues’.”

About THE WHISKEY SHAMBLES:

The Whiskey Shambles are an original garage rock/basement blues band from Cincinnati, OH, formed in 2012 by Nathan Singer, of Starshaker and Absinthium fame, and Brother James, founder of the Cincinnati Entertainment Award-winning blues band Voodoo Puppet. Their sound has been compared to Screaming Jay Hawkins, The Black Keys, Ten Foot Polecats, The Heavy, Gary Clark Jr., Black Diamond Heavies, and The White Stripes. They have been described as, “R.L. Burnside and Black Sabbath jamming with Nina Simone in a burned-out rum shack, using opium for incense.”

The Shambles are currently working their way through the dive bars and juke joints of the Midwest and Rustbelt, with occasional trips to more exotic locales, like Nashville or Buffalo, New Orleans or Asheville, Atlanta or NYC. They won the 2014 Northeast Ohio Blues Challenge, and have been chosen to represent Northeast Ohio Blues Association at the 2015 International Blues Challenge in Memphis, TN. They have also been invited to showcase at the 2015 Millennium Music Conference. The Shambles have been nominated for a 2014 and a 2015 Cincinnati Entertainment Award for best Blues act, and several of their songs have earned critical acclaim.

In 2012 The Whiskey Shambles released the EP, “ONE LAST BLAST: Live at Mad Frog.” September 2014 saw the release of a second live EP, “Stumbling Toward Beale Street.” Their first LP “Loose Change for a Broken Man” was released in November 2014, and several songs from it receive regular airplay on many college and AAA radio stations. The Shambles are already working on their second full-length album, with plans to head into the studio in spring of 2015.

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE:

Whiskey Shambles CD Release Concert
to Showcase Variety of Musical Guests

JetLab to Open the Show, Singers from MUSE and YPCC Perform with Shambles

CINCINNATI, OH – November 11, 2014:  On Saturday, November 15The Drinkery, on Main Street in Over-the-Rhine, will be rocking with music of two local original bands, as well as two local choir groups — and the evening will benefit a no-kill animal shelter.

Most CD release events have an opening act, and The Whiskey Shambles’ show this weekend is no exception. Local 3-piece band JetLab will kick off the evening with their unique mix of rock and soul with dance and electronica. Fronted by songwriters Elle Crash and Nick Barrows, with drummer Dave Welsh, the members of JetLab have been performing together for over a year, and are set to release their own CD later this year.

The Shambles are also adding an extra element to their set by including members of MUSE – Cincinnati’s Women’s Choir and the Young Professionals Choral Collective on select songs. “We wanted to do something very special for this event,” explains Shambles frontman Nathan Singer.  “So we decided to collaborate with other local artists on a number of the songs for this show, to create a larger palette and soundscape for those pieces.”

“It just made sense to go to some of the great local choral groups we have and ask them to lend their voices and ideas to this project,” says Brother James, who produced The Shambles’ latest album, ‘Loose Change for a Broken Man,’ which will be released on Saturday.  “The parts we arranged for LaTanya on the album, and the way she took them over the top, lent themselves to being grown into something larger and more dynamic.  Adding the amazing talents of the members of these choirs transforms these songs, for a unique experience that will only be heard at this show.”

In addition to all the musical stops The Whiskey Shambles are pulling out for this show, the band will be collecting donations for Save the Animals Foundation at the door, donating a portion of merchandise sales to the organization, and raffling off a customized and signed (by The Shambles) bass guitar, with raffle proceeds going to STAF.

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE:

Save the Animals Foundation
Fundraiser at The Drinkery

Animal Shelter Benefit in OTR is also CD Release Concert for local band

CINCINNATI, OH – October 30, 2014: On Saturday, November 15The Drinkery, on Main Street in Over-the-Rhine, will be rocking with music of two local original bands, as well as two local choir groups — and the evening will benefit a no-kill animal shelter.

When you see and hear The Whiskey Shambles perform, the words “warm and fuzzy” are probably the furthest from your mind. But the band does have a soft spot for animals (all the members have at least one rescued pet), and they are taking the opportunity to help a local shelter with the band’s CD release event: The Shambles will be celebrating their first full-length album, “Loose Change for a Broken Man.” Although the event is FREE, donations will be accepted for the Save The Animals Foundation (STAF). The band is also raffling off a special guitar and donating some of the proceeds of CD and merchandise sales to the local no-kill animal shelter.

Aaron Tyree, The Whiskey Shambles’ drummer, regularly volunteers at the shelter, and recently gave some other members of the band a tour of the facility.  “We were struck by just how large this place is,” Shambles’ frontman Nathan Singer noted.  “It looks small from outside, in front of the building, but it’s a huge facility.  They have so many animals here — dogs and cats — but they’re not too crowded, and the animals seem very comfortable.”

“It’s heartbreaking when you realize how many of these animals have special medical needs, and will likely not be adopted because of it,” explains Brother James, The Shambles’ bassist.  “But it’s heartwarming to know that there’s a place like this, with caring people, that will give them a good home for the rest of their lives.  How can you not want to support that?”
